About Us!

Animal Birth Control is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit that was founded by Judy May in August of 1986 when she witnessed firsthand the problem of unwanted pets while she volunteered at a local shelter. She saw a large number of animals being brought into the shelter because they were no longer wanted or their owners could no longer afford to care for them, or no longer had time for them.

Many of these animals would later be euthanized when they could not find a new home.

Judy thought the solution was simple.... if the animals were not born, they would not be unwanted.

Thus, Animal Birth Control came to life.

Since incorporation in 1986, ABC has saved over 10,000 lives by preventing unwanted litters. Many of the families that come forward for assistance have no other financial means to alter their pets. ABC has also assisted hundreds of people spay or neuter their feral, barn, or community cat colonies to prevent the overpopulation of outdoor cats.

About our Board of Directors

Judy May (President)

Animal Birth Control's founder and fearless leader. She truly has her hands in every aspect of ABC. Between answering the phone, filling out vouchers, dropping them off, teaching dog obedience and agility classes, serving on other boards, and having critters of her own, she finds time to help others who need it. If there's a way, Judy is there.

Mikaela Logan (Vice President)

Mikaela grew up right next to Judy, "running with the dogs" whenever she got the chance. Once she was big enough to walk around on her own, her parents would pass her over the fence to Judy. With all this animal exposure, it's clear why Mikaela has always chosen a profession with animals. From horse stall cleaner to Vet Tech to running an animal shelter, she has done it. Mikaela has been the Vice President since 2012.

Pam Wisor (Business Manager/Grant Guru)

Pam has a heart for volunteering. She has served on multiple boards, many of them being animal related. She helped create our local dog park, and helps maintain various Facebook pages. She is the primary grant writer for Animal Birth Control, and she also helps network animals from all over the US to get them into forever homes. When Pam isn't busy with ABC, she serves on the Board of Directors for our local dog park and nature center. She's a busy lady!  Pam has been with ABC since 2007.

Gina Sexton (Secretary)

Fundraising Idea Queen! Gina is a busy lady. She always has ABC in the front of her mind, and never stops coming up with new ways to better this organization. Gina is very involved with various committees, and always advocates for animal welfare and rights.

Gina has been serving on the board since 2011.

Pat McGarvey (Treasurer)

Pat is a record keeping goddess, and amazing with numbers. She has taken over more of our detail oriented record keeping for grant purposes, and makes some awesome spreadsheets. She also helped countless farmers trap their cat colonies so they could be spayed or neutered so they could not continue producing unwanted kittens.

Teresa Rieger (Relief Secretary/Cellphone Photographer)

You'll find Teresa at our events, cell phone in hand snapping photos of the fun! All around animal advocate, Teresa also spends her time serving on various scholorship committees, and Mercy Healthcare Foundations. Teresa has a heart of gold, and enjoys helping others in any way she can.

Joan Berkey (Board Member/Dachshund Mom)

Where you seen Joan, you will find Savannah! Joan is a RN and currently teaches courses to students aspiring to pursue a degree in nursing. When she isn't busy with her students, she enjoys spending time with Savannah and visiting our local dog park.
